Lifehacker’s App Directory is a new and growing directory of recommendations for the best applications and tools in a number of given categories, each week with a different focus. If you have another you prefer instead, let us know what it is and why you like it in the comments. In the end, Revo’s easily the best there is, so we can’t recommend it enough for you Windows app hoarders out there. ![]() These are far from the only ones on the market, but they’re the ones you might want to check out instead of Revo. Plus, if you already have it on your system, it can be convenient to just use it instead of downloading and installing Revo separately. It isn’t quite as feature-filled as Revo’s, but it’ll get the job done better than Windows’ default uninstaller. It’s pretty much the only reason we’d ever recommend it over Revo, so if you have a bunch of programs you need to clean out, this is probably the app to go with.ĬCleaner, our favourite Windows maintenance tool, also has an uninstaller built in. The best feature of IOBit, however, is the batch uninstaller. It does, however, perform a bit better, especially on 64-bit machines, and it has a pretty handy 1-click toolbar uninstaller. IOBit Uninstaller is a pretty nice program that performs very similar tasks, though it isn’t quite as thorough as Revo. But trying out Revo Uninstaller Free can give you an idea of how the program works.Revo is the most thorough of the uninstallers out there, but if you don’t like it for some reason, there are a few programs that perform similar tasks. If you’re constantly installing and uninstalling software, the Pro version of Revo Uninstaller will serve you better. It also works well for removing software that the Windows built-in tool can’t handle, though you’ll need the Pro version to force uninstalls. That said, its Hunter Mode could be useful for identifying which application is causing pop-ups to appear on your computer. Revo Uninstaller Free doesn’t bring many new features to the table, and there are quite a few other free uninstallers that offer the same features in a more polished package. Again, this is a feature that’s only available in the paid version of Revo Uninstaller. With this free software, you can queue up multiple applications to uninstall at the same time. While it lacks a Hunter Mode and doesn’t include any of the system utilities of Revo Uninstaller Free, it can perform a forced uninstall on software that won’t budge, something that you only get with Revo Uninstaller Pro.Īnother free uninstall tool is Advanced Uninstaller PRO. Wise Program Uninstaller is another free system utility designed to make uninstalling applications easier. It certainly runs circles around the default option in. During our testing, we sent a few emails requesting information and received replies within 24 hours. Editors' Review Staff Revo Uninstaller adds some serious power to uninstalling programs, but not a lot of speed. There’s also live chat support and support by email. Most of the guides pertain to Revo Uninstaller Pro, however, which has a different user interface than the Free version and different features. ![]() Revo Group has a good support site for its Uninstaller products, with user manuals, tutorials, videos, and frequently asked questions. The Revo Uninstaller website has many useful resources for getting the most out of the software (Image credit: Revo Uninstaller Free) Support It also found a few false positives, so you need to check each entry to make sure you really want to delete them. ![]() In our testing, Revo Uninstaller Free found several registry entries and files to be removed. After the installation is complete, you’re asked whether you want to perform a Safe, Moderate, or Advanced scan of the files and registry entries that the uninstalled program may have left behind or whether you want to skip this step altogether.Ī Moderate scan takes around 60 seconds, and it searches the most likely locations for remnants of the uninstalled program. Revo Uninstaller Free will then run the program’s standard uninstaller. When you choose a program to uninstall from the list, you’re first asked whether you want to make a System Restore point. Windows apps can be removed on the next tab, and the Tools menu includes eight system utilities for cleaning up files on your computer. Revo Uninstaller Free has a simple interface, with the option of viewing your installed applications as a list or a grid.
